International award to Industrial Biotechnology professor Merja Penttilä, VTT


Research professor Merja Penttilä, VTT, has received the Wihuri Foundation International Prize for her prominent work in industrial biotechnology.

Merja Penttilä is specialized in molecular biology of yeast and fungi. Her research group has investigated, among other things, how ethanol can be produced from biomass as efficiently as possible. 

The award is also a great recognition for the fast growing field of industrial biotechnology as a key enabling technology for bioeconomy.
