Background

A strong need for an industry driven Industrial Biotechnology Cluster in Finland was identified during the final year of Tekes SymBio - Industrial Biotechnology - programme. The SymBio programme ran from 2006 to 2011, with a budget of 80 million euros. The Tekes programme resulted in several innovations for the industry.

As a response to this need a group of Finnish companies and research organisations representing several industries (chemicals, energy, enzymes, food, agro and pharma) came together to plan and start the preparation of IBC Finland.

IBC Finland was established on the 18th of June, 2012 with the goal to boost application of biotechnology across different industry sectors.
